Why are some people so mean...

This is the first post I have done in almost two weeks because someone hacked my computer and destroyed all my files. I found out this was done intentionally and that it came from someone in the scrapping world. I have someone still trying to track who done this and heaven help you if I find out.
I don't understand who would want to do this to me... I never bother anyone or leave negative comments anywhere. I always try to be as accommodating as I possibly can to people and when I learn of a new designer or store I will go and say hi and buy something just to show my support. I try to fill request for kits that cannot be found anywhere else, usually dealing with the lost of a loved one. I am humbled by the wonderful people I have come to know, and I care deeply for other peoples feelings. I try to answer every email and offer to help in any way when asked. I guess I am just shocked that someone would want to try and destroy me this way.
I lost so many files that had not been saved yet or that I just never got around to saving. I had spent four weeks working on a request kit for a lady who lost her husband. She had not been taking it well and I wanted to make sure it was more special than any other kit I had ever done. I was going to save it to disk, I just had a few finishing touches to do and then was going to save that along with a few other request kits I was working on and now they are gone. I am more sad over this loss than all the other things combined.
I am working on re-installing all the files that I had saved to DVD but I lost so much and now I am just trying to figure out where to go from here. When you spend a year working on kits, elements, papers, alphas, etc. to use when you are ready for them, only to have them destroyed because of someones malice ways is a very hard thing to swallow. To have that backup supply gone that I spent a so long designing before I even opened my store takes a lot out of the desire to continue. I did not have the money to start over like this but if I wanted to be able to pay my medical expenses and help my family I knew I had to figure it out.
I have most of my old kits, freebies, etc. back on my computer but I am having to start fresh from everything else. I want to get back to offering freebies again and putting on new store kits as soon as possible so that I can get back somewhat of a normal life and start bringing money back in too help with the expenses. I have decided that who ever done this terrible thing is not going to keep me from giving my freebies to you and they are not going to stop me from selling my kits to make a little extra money. I may have to put in even longer hours that I already do but I will not let someone like that destroy my life.

I am so sory to here that horrible news, people now are just so self centered and can't handle seeing anyone else with talent.
I just wanted to thank you for all you do and have done for us, with your wonderful kits and all.

I can't believe someone did that. You've inspired me and started me into digital scrapping. I love your kits. I had been wondering why there had been nothing new for a while. I'm so sorry this is why! That's just awful.

Susan,
I am a fairly new designer in the scrapping world - just started my blog/freebies in Feb. 08. I was pirated very early on and just about quit but I didn't.

I cannot even IMAGINE someone destroying EVERYTHING and it sickens me to think that someone would do that. I adore your blog/freebies, checking and READING it almost daily. I love the vintage feel and use it all the time as I am doing some family albums with old photos and stuff.

I am so SORRY that someone in the digi scrapping world would be so CRUEL. Please don't give up hope but take all the time you need. I really am just sickened by reading this. You seem to be a target for people with low self-esteem who can't handle someone else who is talented as yourself.

Good luck and remember not all of us are bad.

susan,

Thank you for all the wonderful talent and time that you share with us. Sadly in this world there are those who are so jealous or full of hate that they feel they have to sabotage something wonderful. I love your attitude and never let them get you down. There are more out there that love than those who don't. Keep your chin up.

What an incredibly vile thing for anyone to do. I do hope you are able to find out who it is and that you post their name and email so that they can get the public vilification they deserve. Public opinion on the internet is the most powerful tool there is. I say use it.

I adore your unique work and appreciate your generosity. It's certainly harder to do than to say but don't let the petty, small-minded idiots get you down.

As I saw no post from you on the past 10 daysI hoped you were on holiday and prayed you were not in a bad health. I was also thinking that you had been offering freebies for a year and I was planning on congratulating you in my next comment. I discovered your blog at the end of October last year and was amazed by your talent and generosity. I was hoping your store was working well. I can't imagine there are people out there not agreeing.
I always leave a comment when I download your kit on your blog anonymously but I never forget to thank you. Basic politeness.
You’re the only designer bookmarked in my favorites. You inspired me to design my own embellishments and papers. I can now even more understand the work, talent, creativity and time you put in creating and offering and sharing your designs. I can't get even close to your lovely stylish creations. I would miss them but I understand your need to take a rest off from ungrateful, jealous, mean people who can't even give basic respect to anyone.
I don't know if you can do anything against these people but remember that the scrappers are mostly great persons who will gladly back you up against envious mean-spirited people.
I hope my long comment won’t get cut and that my English isn’t too bad.
Thanks, love and support from France.

Susan, you can and will rise above the malicious intentions of another individual. Do not give him/her control over your life! What do they have to share? Nothing! What do you have to share, a God given talent, a generous caring, loving nature and a deeply rooted conviction to do the right thing! You win, he/she loses!

Dear Susan,
My first scrap ever was using one of your QPs and since then I have become a VERY big fan of yours. My when-I'm-employed-again wish-list is mostly RR products. Personally, I believe it is your outstanding designs that inspired the jealousy of some poor, pathetic soul who was so lost as to do this to you. In other words (if this is any comfort at all), you wouldn't have been hit if you weren't so good. That's my feeling, at least.

Thank you for sticking with it. Thank you all you do!

I am just so shocked that this sort of thing happens at all, let alone to someone as truely generous, kind and hard working as yourself.
How can they feel they have the right to violate your own personal passion, let alone destroy it so utterly?
Your site is one the first design sites I found and one of my absolute favs, as I have so far only downloaded freebies I feel utterly compelled to rush over to your shop and help support you through this difficult time.
I love the gorgeous work you do, and I wish you all the best with your recovery.

Take care and remember that there are heaps of people that are thinking of you! HUG!!!!

Susan,
I've only been in the digital scrapbooking world since May of this year and I became a fan of yours from day one and I feel just awful that this has happened to you. I don't understand why someone would be so distructive to another member of their community - there simply is no reason for this kind of behavior. There are plenty of people like myself who support different designers by visiting their blogs and buying their wonderful products in their stores. Hello to who ever did this, there are enough of us to go around you don't have to be so competitive. This person did this out of pure evil and jeaoulsy and they should be ashamed of themselves. It's not like me to say something like this but if it were me and I was able to say with certainty who had done this, I would out this person to the whole scrapbooking community.

I hope you know that we all appreciate your work and that we all believe you are a very talented designer. Thank you so much for all the wonderful freebies. Hang in there. ;-)

I am a bit confused as to how someone could get access to your computer via the intenet in the first place. Did you go to a site that fed you a browser hack or did you download something you opened and it ate up the drive contents? I don't think someone from the scrap world would do such a nasty thing as to hack into some back door on your computer and cause you to lose data. Your best go buy a new hard drive and install your OS fresh onto it instead of using the drive that cause this issue. After everything is installed I'd check for any back doors you leave open. I aplogise if this sounds like I don't believe you but 22 years in computers kind of makes me question how they got in in the first place.

Susan, I was so sorry to hear this. Can't imagine how anyone can be so cruel. Even though I only know you from here, there is no doubt in my mind that you are very sweet and generous. It has to be someone that doesn't have those good qualities and is extremely jealous. Hope that you find out who did this. They deserve to be blackballed out of the scrapping community. Don't tax yourself too much as we sure don't want you to get sick on top of everything. Hugs.

I just don't understand people's behaviour sometimes. All I can think is that there are some very sick people out there. I hope you can recover your work, so much time and creativity wasted. Just know that there are so many more of us who appreciate your talents and delightful freebies.

Susan,
Just know that not everyone out here is like that!! From the majority of us - sorry for what happened - you do wonderful work and we all enjoy reaping the benefits of your freebies! To those who are only out for themselves - You WILL get what's coming to you in the end!

Catherine said...

Oh, Susan, I am SO sorry! There is simply no excuse or justification for this kind of behavior!!! Bullys are just the lowest kind of person.

You have been a real blessing to me, and, while I haven't been able to buy much of your work from your store, I love looking at the beautiful kits you create, and truly, truly appreciate the freebies you so generously give out.

So I'm guessing that no kind of recovery program can help? Ugh.

Always make back-ups from important files!
Oh, there is a program called 'Undelete' wich can get a lot from your files back.

I wish you all the best and hang in there. In internet AND real life there are allways 'monsters'. Learn from them ;) Always look on the bright side of life!

Sweetest Susan,
I am saddened to hear that someone would deliberately target you.
I enjoy your style of designing and I SO appreciate your moral character.
Obviously, someone that envies your continued success would be the only person to want to hurt you.
I hope you find the person - publish their name so that the digital scrap world will not have anything to do with them.
You are loved by so many more than those selfish individuals that wanted to harm your files.

Susan, my heart is breaking for you. As an artist, I know how hard it is to put your heart out there for the world to see in the first place, then to have someone just destroy everything for their own pleasure...it is difficult to pick up the pieces & move forward.

You HAVE to, though -- cowards (yeah, when they sneak in the backdoor, they're COWARDS!) like that don't deserve the satisfaction of knowing that they've beaten you down even for a second.

You're a caring, loving, talented individual & God's love will carry you through this! Praying for you to return to normal quickly & sending big, soft, squishy hugs from Utah!

My son has been playing a game on line that is in it early stages & had devoted too much time to it I thought,(he is 20 & getting ready to do back to college) but he came to me the other day & said someone, they thought that was playing the game had hack into it & destoyed all they had do & had to shut it down! He as sad & asked why someone would do that? I wish I had some wise words to share but I know we live in a not perfect world & it seems to get bigger all the time. Dear Susan,

I am so sorry to hear that someone could be so mean. You are a very giving person and it is horrible that something like this should happpen. I've often told my husband it is scary the mean, mean world we now live in, and whoever did this to you is an example of what I am talking about. My belief is they will pay someday for all the mean things they have done. It's a shame, because in the scrapping world, we are all here together sharing a common bond of loving scrapping. Such a shame for someone to put such a black mark on this enjoyable part of our lives. ASll I can say is "shame on them." If you can. do invest in an external hard drive. They can be bought for something around $100. I have collected scrapping elements since I retired in Dec. and have such a horror of losing my goodies. Shoot, I even worry about not having a backup for my backup. That's how much these goodies mean to me. So in your case, I understand why it would be so upsetting. Not only that you lost your materials, but that someone would be mean enough to somehow sabotage your computer. I do so hope you don't give up to someone's evil ways. Don't let them win. You are a sweetie in the digi world and so appreciated.

I was alerted to this awful thing from Nicole at nbk. When I came to your blog to investigate, I was blown away by how many comments! I just KNEW the digiscrap community would give you words of comfort, and reeeeely want to find the perpetrater. I'm a total newbie, but have learned in my brief time reading blogs and trying to learn, that the digiscrappers on the whole are some of the nicest most generous people. Most would do all they could to help you learn this fascinating art, as well as offer freebies to boot! I guess I'm glad that something like this person did would just never occur to me. When there are so many folks sharing so much, there is no reason to steal or pirate. Just my humble opinion.
Please add my 'voice' to the chorus of supporters that have come to your defense. Thank you for all you've shared. From what I've found so far, you are VERY highly regarded in this community. Hang in there, we're with you!

I hope you find out who it is and plaster their name and address all over the web. I mean it. There is just no excuse for such malicious behavior. You have been so kind to so many people - I just can't imagine why someone would do such a thing.

I have a pretty good library of your work (well, your fabulous freebies, that is) - would it help you any if I were to send them to you or open a 4shared account where you can access what I've saved over the past? almost two years? I'd love to help you if I can!

Glad you are not throwing the towel in! The digi-scrapping world would miss you terribly!

Oh Susan: I have not been on line in over a month, very sick... But when I got on this evening and read about this awful thing, I actually got angry and just had to respond. I don't know if you'll see this since I'll be the 164th comment, but.........

I can totally understand your frustration. You are right; WHY are people so mean?? What on earth can your beautiful work do to someone to make them so CRAZY? Well, when you think of it, they have to really be off mentally to be able to bring themselves so low to do something like that.

The only thing that I can think of is that someone is very jealous of you and your wonderful talent. Just remember, there are 100's of us out here that love you and appreciate you, your kindness and your beautiful work!!

I guess you are now going to have to be so much more diligent in safe-guarding your work, it's such a shame you can't be safe on your own home computer :-(

What if you got an external hard drive and saved all your work in progress and kits and goodies you just have not saved to CD yet, on it. Than, at night when you shut down the computer, you could unplug the external drive. This way, no amount of hacking can get to something that is not connected to anything. I have a 500GB external drive that just plugs into my USB port. Just a thought!!

Well, take heart, cheer up and don't let "them" get to you because that is what "they" want.
